It’s normal to feel a little nervous
Walking into a new clinic when you’re in pain — and unsure what’s wrong — can feel intimidating. The good news: your first visit is mostly a conversation. Our goal is for you to leave feeling heard, informed, and genuinely hopeful about the path ahead.
What to bring
- A photo ID and your insurance card
- Any relevant imaging, surgical notes, or referrals (if you have them — not required to start)
- Comfortable, loose clothing you can move in, and supportive shoes
- A list of your questions and the goals that matter most to you
What happens during the evaluation
Plan for about an hour of one-on-one time with your therapist.
- Your story. We start by listening — what you’re feeling, how it started, and how it’s affecting your daily life.
- A hands-on exam. We assess your movement, strength, and the source of your symptoms, explaining what we find as we go.
- A plain-language explanation. No jargon. You’ll understand what’s happening and why you’re feeling it.
- Your plan. Together we set realistic goals and map out the first steps of your recovery.
How to make the most of it
Be honest about your pain and your goals — there are no wrong answers. The more we understand about your life, the more personal your plan can be. And don’t hesitate to ask questions; helping you understand your own recovery is part of the work.
You’ll likely start treatment that same first visit. Most people walk out already feeling more in control than when they walked in.
